Oklahoma registered agent
Last verified
Every Oklahoma LLC has to keep a registered agent and a registered office in Oklahoma. The agent can be the LLC itself, an Oklahoma resident, or a domestic or qualified foreign corporation, LLC, or partnership. The office has to be that agent's business office, and it has to be open during regular business hours. If you live in Oklahoma and have a business address that isn't your home, serve yourself, or name the LLC, and pay nothing. Everyone else should hire one. A commercial agent usually costs $50 to $150 a year. Changing the agent is $25 online.
Our recommendation
Be your own agent if you can. Otherwise, use Northwest.
If you have a non-home Oklahoma office that is open during business hours, name yourself or name the LLC and pay nothing. If you work from home or live outside Oklahoma, use Northwest at $125 a year. Switching later is $25 online.

Oklahoma registered agent rules
What the state requires, from the statute and the Secretary of State.
- What Oklahoma calls it
- Registered agent, at a registered office (18 O.S. § 2010).
- Who can serve
- The LLC itself, an individual who lives in Oklahoma, or a domestic or qualified foreign corporation, LLC, or partnership, including a limited liability partnership.
- Address rule
- The agent’s business office has to be identical to the registered office, and that office has to be open during regular business hours.
- Change of agent
- $25 online for a Change or Designation of Registered Agent and/or Registered Office. The same $25 covers a change of the principal office filed with it.
- If the agent resigns
- $25 online. The agent notifies the LLC at least 30 days before filing. The resignation takes effect 30 days after filing, or on a later date that is not past the 90th day.
- With no successor
- If no new agent is designated before the resignation takes effect, the Secretary of State is the agent until you name one.
- Price
- Serving yourself, or naming the LLC, is free. A commercial agent usually costs $50 to $150 a year.
Do you need a registered agent in Oklahoma?
Yes. Oklahoma requires a registered agent. If the agent resigns and you have not named a successor by the effective date, the Secretary of State is deemed the agent until you file a new designation. That is not a person who will call you about a lawsuit. The resignation clock is 30 days after filing, and the agent has to warn the LLC at least 30 days before that filing, so you should have about two months from the first notice. File the $25 change before the Secretary of State is standing in.
Can you be your own registered agent?
Serve yourself if you live in Oklahoma and the registered office is a business office that is open during regular business hours. You can also name the LLC itself, with that same office. The address is public. A home where nobody is there during the business day does not meet the office-hours rule, so don't use it.
What a paid registered agent costs in Oklahoma
Hire one if you work from home, travel, or live outside Oklahoma. A commercial agent usually costs $50 to $150 a year. Northwest charges $125 a year. Naming the LLC as its own agent does not hide the principal place of business. The articles still require that address. Pay for an agent when the business office would otherwise be your house.
How to change your Oklahoma registered agent
File the Change or Designation of Registered Agent online. The fee is $25. A resignation is a separate $25 filing. The resigning agent has to notify the LLC at least 30 days before that filing, and the resignation cannot take effect sooner than 30 days after the Secretary of State files it, or later than the 90th day. Appoint the new agent before that date. Otherwise the Secretary of State is the agent.
